loosing your hairdresser

Did that send chills down your spine? You know, the thought of ‘loosing your hairdresser?’ Kinda sounds like they went missing under your bed with all the dustbunnies and old newspapers.

I recently lost mine. To a baby. A very common ocurance. Not too sure what a newborn wants with her. I’m certain they don’t need a haircut for a long while.

Which got me thinking about what the hell do I do now? And seeing as my mind works in point form (truly) this is what I have come up with (with professional help).

  • Stay at the same salon. They know your face (and hair), they should have your colour details written down on the back of a napkin somewhere. Better the devil you know sometimes.
  • Ask a friend who does their hair. There is a clause in this one though where you are unable to hold your friend liable if it doesn’t work out. Don’t be amazed if they wont tell you either. Whether out of ’she’s mine bitch’ or them worrying their ‘dresser is not your type they do have the right to say ‘NO’
  • Stop someone in the street. Really. If you see someone with gorgeous hair, the cut/colour that you want or similar hair (particularly if you are curly) then stop them, tell them they have ‘totally gorgeous hair’ and ask them who their magician is. They will be so stunned with the compliment they will blurt it out before they realise. Have pen and paper ready.
  • Go somewhere completely new. Scary. However sometimes you have no choice. Work out your price point first. How much is your minimum haircut price and what is the maximum. Then find a salon that falls into that.
  • Do you want the same person to do your cut and colour? Or do you like the separate stylist/colourist thing?
  • Go in personally to book the appointment. Try and meet the person you are booked in with. If only to make sure they smile nicely at you.
  • Too chicken to do it all on the first date? Then book in for a blowdry. Or just one of your services.

I have my appointment with my new girl in an hour. Wondering if I can take valium.
